For this week, our children were immersed in the Chinese New Year celebrations. The teachers have planned many fun filled activities, to raise our children's awareness on how people of different cultures celebrate some of their important festivals.
"Chinese New Year" marks the beginning of spring and symbolizes the start of a new year according to our Chinese lunar calendar. It is a good opportunity for us to share about the historical significance and traditional practices with our children.
Let us take a look at some of the activities that have been conducted over the past week.
The younger children were learning about Chinese New Year greetings and some of the objects related to this festival, such as mandarin oranges, fire crackers, and red packets.
They also had the opportunity to create tiger craft decorations for their parents.
The older children were engaged with story of "Nian" and had lots of fun performing their own lion dance move.
The children's learning on this festival was further extended with our specially designed take-home activities.
As we celebrate this joyus festival with our friends and family, let's not forget about those who are in need within our community too. As such, we have encouraged our children to donate a small part of their savings, from red packets collected previously, to the elderlies from St Lukes. At the same time, we are able to inculcate good values like compassion to our children.
In the midst of our celebrations, we are honoured to be visited by Mr Don Wee (MP of Chua Chu Kang GRC) during his CNY Fortune Walkabout.
We are happy to be a part of Brickland's community and will continue to do our part in caring for our children and seniors in the area.
On behalf of the Ichiban Montessori Group, we would like to wish all our parents, children, community partners and staff, a prosperous Chinese New Year! May this new year brings everyone great health and happiness 😘
